Introduction

General Information

  • Sleepy Owl sits on a 20-acre estate of woodland, meadows with a stream
  • Wheelchair users may find the site hard to navigate due to slopes, steps and soft ground
  • All our properties are accessed via steps
  • Hartland Village is 800m south of the site, including a moderately steep climb up the road. The village has 2 well-stocked shops, 3 pubs, a coffee shop, and a fish and chip shop as well as local potteries, galleries etc.
  • Information and guide are available digitally and in large print upon request
  • All our properties have hypo-allergenic bedding available
  • All our properties are dog-friendly and, while we pride ourselves on how spotless they are, we cannot guarantee a completely allergen-free environment

Getting Here

  • Hartland is very rural.
  • Our nearest train station is Barnstaple - 45 minutes drive away. Taxis can be pre-booked for transport from Barnstaple station. Locally, taxis are available but they are also very limited and pre-booking is highly advised.
  • There is a bus stop in the village which is served by a regular bus service towards Bude (Bus 219) and towards Westward Ho! (Bus 319).

Arrival

  • Parking is beside the barn. Detailed directions will be sent via email
  • Keys for each property are stored in front of it’s marked parking bay in a coded key locker
  • Check in is available from 4:30pm, which is during daylight hours all year round, though all paths and the parking area are lit with motion-sensing lights at night.
  • Distance and access notes to all properties is provided below

Nest Treehouse

  • Nest Treehouse is closest to the Parking area - approximately a 25m walk around the barn which is well lit at night.
  • The treehouse is accessed via 22 wooden steps, which are moderately steep at approximately 40°. The steps are lit via a motion-sensor at night.
  • Once inside, the treehouse is on a single level - there are three internal doors (Bedroom, Bathroom, Kid’s Room) all are ~780mm wide.
  • The Walls and doors are same colour and material - discerning the openings in low light may be difficult
  • The Master bedroom has unobstructed floorspace on each side of the bed 
  • All rooms have windows, ceiling lighting, bedside lamps and natural daylight
  • Bed guards are provided
  • The shower is level-access, and a chowder chair is available on request
  • The Kitchen is open plan
  • The fire alarm system provides audio and visual indication of fire/smoke/CO via the ceiling mounted units

Hideout Treehouse

  • Hideout Treehouse is approximately 70m from the Parking area on a wood-chip path - the path is lit by bollard lighting every 20m. There is a single step up (150mm) onto a wooden bridge, and three even wooden steps (200mm each) onto a track. Directly across the track are 16 even woodland steps (190mm each) with a small (1400x1400mm) landing at the 10th step. At the top of the Woodland steps there is a wood chipped level area, and then there are a final 6 wooden steps (200mm each) to access the treehouse deck. 
  • The treehouse steps and the woodland steps are lit via a motion-sensor at night. The bridge is not lit.
  • Once inside, the treehouse is on a single level - there are two internal swing doors (Bathroom, Kid’s Room) which are both ~780mm wide. There is a sliding door to access the main bedroom - this is ~900mm wide.
  • The Walls and doors are same colour and material - discerning the openings in low light may be difficult
  • All rooms have windows, ceiling lighting, bedside lamps and natural daylight
  • Bed guards are provided
  • The Master bedroom has unobstructed floorspace on each side of the bed 
  • The shower is level-access, and a chowder chair is available on request
  • The Kitchen is open plan

The Cosy Cowshed

  • The Cowshed is approximately a 20m walk from the parking area, through a pedestrian gate. 
  • The Cowshed is accessed via 11 stone steps, which are moderately steep at approximately 42°. The steps are slightly uneven - being between 200mm and 220mm rise. Once on the Walkway in front of the Cowshed, step-free access is achieved by going around the front of the building, and accessing via the side door. This walkway is pea-shingle topped, with ‘stepping stone’ paving slabs.
  • Once inside, the Cowshed is on a single level - there are three internal doors (Bedroom, Bathroom, Kid’s Room) all are ~780mm wide.
  • The Cowshed Terrace area has a lower and a higher step - with the covered area being mostly on the raised step (approximately 150mm)
  • There is good contrast for all doors, and all internal doors are 750mm wide or more
  • Due to the construction of the Cowshed, The bedrooms have limited floorspace around the beds.
  • All rooms have windows, ceiling lighting, bedside lamps and natural daylight
  • Bed guards are provided
  • There is a shower-over-bath in the bathroom, and the bathtub is quite tall at approximately 800mm.
  • The Kitchen is open plan
  • The fire alarm system provides audio and visual indication of fire/smoke/CO via the ceiling mounted units
