When you think of Devon and Cornwall, what do you envisage? Days on the beach, right? And what a great idea that is, rain or shine the beach is always entertaining. That’s not all there is on offer though. If you’re looking for a fun day out, family fun or a bit of an adventure, here are a few of our favourites close to us.

North Devon Wake Park

Not just for wakeboarding, at North Devon Wake Park you can paddleboard, run around on the inflatable aquapark, scream yourselves silly on the ringo rides and kneeboards and try wakeboarding! There’s a cafe on site for some well-earned refreshments or for those who would rather watch, but you can also bring a picnic and relax on the grass if you’re looking to save some money on the day.

The Milky Way Adventure Park

Winner of many awards, including TripAdvisor’s ‘Best of the Best award, where do we even start! There’s roller coasters, Ziggy’s Blast Quest, birds of prey shows, their all new Ninja Stars assault course, soft play centres for all ages, outdoor jumping pillows and slides, bumper cars, ringo rides, a maze and much more.  

With cafee on site you can enjoy a cafe or lunch.

The Big Sheep

You and the family could spend all day at The Big Sheep; there’s plenty to do including rides for all the family, meeting the animals, outdoor fun from jumping pillows to boat rides, their indoor Ewetopia soft play, and even sheep races.  

There are lots of events taking place on-site too such as Toddlerfest, Teachers Rock Music Festival, Summer Sounds, DJ sets and live music. Take a look at their website to book a fun-filled family day in the sunshine.

Combe Martin Wildlife & Dinosaur Park

One for dinosaur lovers! As well as an array of beautiful animals and wildlife such as an African lion, California sea lion and penguins, there are 30 animatronic dinosaurs to find! Including a life size Tyrannosaurus Rex that comes alive every hour to the children’s delight.  

You can also get up close and personal with the sea lions, even swimming with them, or watch a carnivore breakfast with the wolves as special experiences. There’s a playzone for some indoor play, a dino express train ride, a tomb of the pharaohs for some lighthearted education and a critter cavern all to explore in between too!

Woolley Animals Alpaca Walking & Farm Park

Have you ever thought about walking an alpaca? Probably not! Well, at Wooley Animals you can. Something a little different for the little ones to tell their friends about when they get home. There are also goats, dogs, sheep, pigs and the resident Llama, Levi. These animals are loved dearly as part of the Woolley family and each has a name to suit their personality.

Skern Lodge

The team at Skern Lodge in Appledore take pride in their flexibility, allowing you to book from their pre-arranged activity schedule or create bespoke packages to suit you and your family. Their long list of activities includes abseiling, an assault course, bodyboarding, coastal traversing, climbing, kayaking and surfing.  

These guys also put on an Adventure Club for 8-16-year-olds during the school holidays, where you can choose between a morning, afternoon, full day or even an entire week of jam-packed fun. Catering to all ages, their Young at Heart Adventure Club also meets once a month for a fun outdoor session for those looking to stay active, learn new skills and try some different.

Affinity Devon

Not simply an outlet shopping centre, Affinity Devon offers lots to keep everyone happy and entertained. The World of Wonder soft play centre is great for letting the kids burn off some energy, and The Really Wild Planet teaches them all about reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates, including being able to handle and feed them. Next to the food and drink courtyard, the amphitheatre also hosts a craft & food market once a month too.
